Turquoise Design Process And Inspiration At Monica Vinader

Turquoise is known for its ability to instill strength, not to mention it's an absolute showstopper. It's no wonder then, that it's a Monica Vinader favourite.

Working alongside a team of dedicated designers, the vision for each new collection comes from Monica herself. Drawing inspiration from a multitude of places from art and architecture to nature and travel. Our collections are often influenced by Monica's surroundings or objects found on her travels around the globe that inspire her to play with different styles and silhouettes, and to consider how we might adapt them for our collections. With ideas being drawn from such a vast array of forms, our pieces span from being fluidly organic to ultra linear, but each still remains true to our overall philosophy; that every piece must be innovative, wearable and simple.

The inspiration for each collection is collated to build a moodboard, which Monica and the design team then work from to refine down to specific shapes, textures and colours. It could be of an amazing gemstone that Monica is captivated by, an architectural feature or a simple shell found on the beach. Each design vision is then brought to life in the form of a hand-drawn sketch.

To refine and edit our designs, we do as much in the design studio as possible; from 3D printing and checking rings will stack, to using our local Silversmith in Norfolk to achieve the right 'look and feel'. Each design is then extensively quality control tested before reaching our boutiques. This journey means that each piece is personal to Monica, and tells a story of uncompromising attention to detail.

NURA INSPIRATION

'Nura', named after the ancient epithet for the beautiful island of Menorca, is reminiscent of sea forms, from tumbled pebbles and reef fragments to high-polished shells and nuggets. Inspired by the simple lines of artists Brancusi and Jean Arp, and reminiscent of Barbara Hepworth's 'Assembly of Sea Forms' sculpture, the Nura collection references abstract, natural forms.

NURA DESIGN

The underwater inspiration for this collection made Turquoise the perfect semi-precious stone addition, with a design that allows full view of the characterful gemstones through a seamless setting, while still keeping a contemporary look. Our Nura collection features multi-faceted, single checker-cut Turquoise gemstones, set in elegant and simplified silhouettes for an elevated shine. The Nura collection is designed to be stacked and styled together, combining the vibrant Turquoise with everyday pieces made from 18ct Rose Gold Vermeil or with ethically-sourced pavé diamonds to dress up your look. The collection includes stacking rings in new teardrop and pebble shapes, large and small pendants ideal for layering as well as high-impact cocktail earrings and rings.

STYLING TURQUOISE

Whether you're looking for everyday jewellery, subtle workwear pieces or statement jewels to glam up your evening look for formal events, Turquoise is the perfect gemstone to suit all styles.

From delicate stud earrings to striking cocktail rings, elevate your style with the modern simplicity of Turquoise, which is perfect for giving an everyday jewellery look a modern, atypical nonchalance. It's a striking semi-precious gemstone that adorns personalities and never goes out of fashion.

For a modern and fresh twist, keep silhouettes in mind and try mixing different shapes and adding complementing diamonds for extra sparkle. Subtly combine bold statement pieces with a delicate bracelet, which looks great when paired with one striking Turquoise ring. For the perfect finishing touch, add a show stopping pair of Turquoise cocktail earrings and a simple diamond necklace - a statement look that is guaranteed to steal the spotlight.

TURQUOISE AT MONICA VINADER

Sourced in the US, Turquoise is the stone for the Sagittarius zodiac and the birthstone of december, representing strength. This gemstone, which ranges in colour from bright blue to Tibetan green, can naturally occur in a solid blue finish but is often characterised by black, brown, or grey veins and some metallic, pyrite spots. We cover it with a colourless protective coating to ensure it holds its allure for a long time.

At Monica Vinader we take great pride in the quality of our materials, which we meticulously select from all corners of the world. All of our gemstones are hand-selected and cut from the rough, allowing us to remain true to Monica's design vision without compromise.

Each Turquoise gemstone used in our Nura and Linear collection is completely unique, because we only use genuine, semi-precious, ethically sourced gemstones. Each one has its own distinct character, and each must meet our standards of colour, pattern and cut. Our gemstones are hand-selected, hand-cut from the rough, and hand checked to our exacting specification - ensuring that each piece of jewellery has vibrant, natural beauty.
