Brita Fernandez-Schmidt is a force to be reckoned with - a true inspiration. As a dear friend of Monica's, we catch up with the Executive Director of Women for Women International UK to hear what she has to say about the values of friendship.

What does friendship mean to you?
Friendship is a family that you choose. My friends are my tribe, the people who cheer me on, who understand me without words, who celebrate my growth and hold my hand when I need it. Friendship is wonderful.
What are the three most important qualities of a good friend?
No judgement. Honesty and saying the hard things. Fun.

What's the best piece of advice a friend has ever given you?
My first Women for Women International sponsor sister, Amela from Bosnia, taught me that you can love someone without meeting them. Her letters made me realise that we truly have more in common than the things which divide us. By sponsoring a woman survivor of war through Women for Women International's year-long training programme, you can help her to transform her life, and create the most incredible connection.

Which of your friend's style do you admire the most and why?
I love Maria Kastani's style, it is so beautiful, bold, fun, colourful and elegant. I love styles that are outside the box, defy the norm and bring joy.
