MV Speaks To: Ruby Hammer On Metallic Style

As one half of the power duo behind Ruby & Millie, make-up guru Ruby Hammer MBE has really made her mark on the world of fashion and beauty. Having worked in the industry for over 25 years, her expertise is certainly in no short supply so we were thrilled to team up with her for our latest Diamond Metallica campaign shoot. We caught up with Ruby on set to unveil her insider top tips on how to wear metallics and work one of this season's hottest trends.

What feel were you going for with the Diamond Metallica campaign?
I wanted to create an effortless look that was soft and elegant, classic yet still modern to perfectly complement the stunning jewellery collection.

Why do metallics make such great make-up looks?
In the same way that jewellery illuminates the skin, make-up can too. Giving off a radiant glow, metallic tones draw instant attention to the complexion to create a wonderfully warm and flattering finish.

What are your top tips for wearing metallics for day?
The easiest way to make this look work for day is to limit metallic tones to just one area. Don't go full face and avoid glitter, try a subtle lip gloss with a hint of sheen or use a highlighter on your brow bone to emphasise your cheekbones - I love Benefit Sunbeam and NARS Multiple Sticks.
Chanel Illusion D'Ombre eyeshadows are brilliant products to try out if you want to experiment with a metallic eye or go for metallic nails to draw attention to beautiful bracelets and rings.

What's the easiest way to take metallics from day to night?
Add a bit more of your metallic product to give your look a more seductive evening feel. Line your eyes, add a coat of dark mascara and keep your skin looking matte. Groomed eyebrows will help to frame your face for a flattering finish.

Where's your favourite place for a night out?
I love Little House in Mayfair at the moment. It's comfy and stylish with yummy cocktails and great food. Plus with such a relaxed atmosphere, it's a favourite with off-duty A-listers so it's ideal for a bit of celeb spotting!

What's your must-have piece from the Diamond Metallica Collection?
I absolutely love the full pave diamond Fijis - although I can't decide on my favourite colour! I'm also tempted to invest in all three colourways of the Skinny Bar bracelet and wear them stacked up all together.

Silver, yellow gold, or rose gold - which one wins?
I used to only wear silver but then I moved on to yellow gold which I've worn for many years. Lately I've been wearing lots of rose gold too - I love that it works really well both on its own or mixed in with my yellow gold favourites. For a really modern look, I like to layer up all three.
